oh so deep
note on Jewish suffering:
Satan is not sovereign over suffering. God is. - Piper
God works all things for the good of those who are called according to His purpose. - Romans 8
the Jews are the only nation who entered into a binding covenant with God. when Abraham killed the sacrifice back in Genesis and God walked in between the halves of the sacrifice, He was saying, "Let what has happened to this sacrifice happen to me if I break this promise I am making with you." (paraphrased mr. loftness)
"...the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God." - Romans 3:2
they are "the only people on earth who are in a formal written accountability contract with God to be holy or else suffer severely adverse earthly consequences of their sin." -uncle shaul
they, as a nation are blessed by God...and disciplined by God. To the Jew first, then to the Greek. (Romans 1:16) discipline and blessing come first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
but here is a mystery:
in Christ, there is no Jew nor Gentile. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave, nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise." - Galatians 3:28-29 (Col 3:11)
if we trust Christ, we are ALL children of the promise.
But there's still something with the physical Jewish people...I don't think the church has completely taken over the role of Israel.
"Lest you be wise in your own conceits, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, 'The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob'; 'and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins." As regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all." -Romans 11:25-32
pretty crazy stuff.....
one week exactly....
